NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused BJP workers of accompanying election officials during the 'vote-from-home' initiative for the elderly, claiming this undermines democratic rights. AAP shared a video featuring an elderly woman alleging that five individuals, including BJP members, were present during her home visit for voting. In response, Chief Electoral Officer R Alice Vaz clarified that candidates and their representatives from all parties can join poll officials on these visits, aimed at assisting those over 85 and persons with disabilities. The CEO's office reported 6,447 applications for senior citizens and 1,058 for disabled voters, with a total of 1,271 seniors and 120 disabled individuals having already voted. The 'vote-from-home' method ensures confidentiality and transparency, with the process being videographed. The initiative is voluntary, and voters opting for it will not be allowed to vote at polling stations on election day.
