Kejriwal's Bold Claim on BJP's CM; Party Responds

NEW DELHI: Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal intensified his criticism of the BJP, alleging that the party's reluctance to announce a chief ministerial candidate stems from fear of defeat. Kejriwal suggested that the BJP has chosen former South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri, who is contesting against Chief Minister Atishi in Kalkaji, as its candidate. In response, BJP leaders pointed to a court order restricting Kejriwal's ability to serve as chief minister due to his bail conditions in a police case. Kejriwal challenged Bidhuri to a public debate to clarify their visions for Delhi. Bidhuri's controversial remarks, including Islamophobic slurs, have previously drawn backlash, and despite BJP's attempts to distance itself from his comments, they remain a focal point in the campaign. The BJP maintains that its lotus symbol is sufficient for electoral success. sources

Anand Mahindra Defends Wife After L&T Chief's Comment

Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra has emphasized the importance of work quality over quantity in a recent address at the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2025 in New Delhi. Responding to calls from corporate leaders like Infosys founder Narayana Murthy for longer working hours, Mahindra argued that the focus should be on the output produced, regardless of hours worked. He highlighted the necessity of understanding consumer needs, using the example of car manufacturing, and advocated for a holistic approach to decision-making that incorporates liberal arts education. Mahindra also expressed the need for personal time and reflection to enhance decision-making abilities, quoting Mahatma Gandhi to support his views. While he sidestepped a direct question about his own working hours, he reiterated that the quality of work should take precedence over the time spent working. sources

Noida Men Die After Leaving Chhole Cooking Overnight

Two young men, Upendra (22) and Shivam (23), tragically lost their lives in Noida after leaving a pot of chickpeas cooking overnight on a gas stove for their '_chhole bhature_' stall. The pair, who lived in a rented house in Basai village, went to sleep on Friday night, neglecting to turn off the gas. Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajiv Gupta reported that the room filled with smoke, leading to a dangerous buildup of carbon monoxide due to a lack of oxygen, as the door was shut. Neighbours noticed the smoke hours later and broke down the door to assist, but both men were declared dead on arrival at a local hospital. There were no visible injuries on their bodies, and authorities have ordered post-mortems. Carbon monoxide, an odourless gas produced by burning fuel, can accumulate in enclosed spaces, posing a significant risk. sources

Fishing Sustained Them for 700 Years; Now They're Indebted

The Koli community, an indigenous group in Mumbai, has relied on fishing from the Arabian Sea for nearly 700 years. However, dwindling fish stocks have forced them to venture further out, sometimes reaching the Gujarat coast and even near Pakistan, leading to increased debt and hardship. Women, who handle the sale of the catch, express concerns about their children’s futures in the profession, as many families are now resorting to menial jobs for survival. Environmental issues, including pollution and climate change, have exacerbated the decline in marine life, with fishermen often returning empty-handed after costly trips. The community is also facing a labor shortage, with many Kolis leaving the industry, making way for workers from other regions. Activists highlight that toxic water pollution and construction projects are driving fish away, while fishermen increasingly rely on expensive nets that further harm marine ecosystems. sources

Analysis: Is NCP Reunion Imminent?

Political instability in Maharashtra persists post-assembly elections, with speculation that eight MPs and ten MLAs from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), led by Sharad Pawar, may soon join Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's faction. Reports indicate these legislators are in discussions with Ajit Pawar, raising the prospect of a reconciliation between the factions. Additionally, there are suggestions that Sharad Pawar could align with the ruling Mahayuti alliance and the NDA government at the Centre, spurred by a family plea for unity and support from key political figures. However, Sharad Pawar's historical commitment to leftist ideologies and concerns over his daughter's political future complicate this potential shift. While the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition dismisses rumors of a rapprochement, the political landscape remains fluid, with analysts cautioning against predictions regarding Sharad Pawar's next steps. sources
