Man's Onion Request Sparks Swiggy Flash Sale

A Delhi man's humorous plea for extra onions with his Swiggy order has sparked a viral response and led to a flash sale by Swiggy Instamart. The man, frustrated by soaring onion prices, requested the restaurant to send him extra onions for free, highlighting that they had become too costly for him to purchase. His flatmate shared the request on Reddit, prompting widespread amusement and commentary online. In response, Swiggy co-founder Phani Kishan Addepalli took notice and announced a limited-time sale, offering onions at Rs 39 per kg in the Delhi-NCR region from 7 PM to 8 PM. This initiative comes as onion prices have surged to Rs 70-80 per kg in the area, reflecting a broader trend of rising vegetable costs across other cities as well. sources

Gandhi Siblings Head to Sambhal, UP Police Prepared to Intervene

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have embarked on a trip to Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, to assess the aftermath of recent violence linked to a mosque survey. Their departure comes as Congress workers gather outside their residence to accompany them, despite extensive security measures and police intent to halt their progress due to the area's sensitive law and order situation. The unrest follows violent clashes during a court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid, resulting in four fatalities and numerous injuries. Prohibitory orders remain in effect until December 31, preventing outsiders from entering the region. Local political figures, including Samajwadi Party representatives, have faced similar restrictions. District Magistrate Rajendra Pensia has instructed police to prevent the Gandhi siblings from proceeding, while Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai insists on allowing at least a four-member delegation to visit Sambhal. sources

Three Injured After Google Maps Shortcut Leads to Canal

Three individuals were injured on Tuesday when their car plunged into a dry canal in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, after they followed a "shortcut" suggested by Google Maps while en route to Pilibhit. The incident occurred near Kalapur village, prompting local villagers to alert the police for assistance. Fortunately, the victims sustained only minor injuries and were subsequently taken to a hospital. Superintendent of Police Manush Parik confirmed that the car, registered in Haryana, was retrieved from the canal with a tractor. This incident marks the second Google Maps-related accident in just ten days; last month, three people tragically died when their vehicle fell into the Ramganga river from a damaged bridge, which had not been updated on the navigation system following flood damage. Officials noted that the lack of safety barriers contributed to that earlier fatality. sources

Maharashtra Power Sharing: BJP 22, Sena 12 Proposal

As Maharashtra prepares for the swearing-in ceremony of its new Chief Minister, the ruling alliance has yet to finalize its leadership amid ongoing discussions over ministerial positions. A power-sharing formula has reportedly been established, allocating one ministerial post for every six MLAs, which would grant the BJP, with 132 seats, 20 to 22 ministerial roles. Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena faction is expected to receive 12 posts, while Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faction is in line for 9 to 10. However, disputes over key portfolios, particularly the coveted Home Ministry, have delayed announcements, with Shinde's faction insisting on a fair share of responsibilities if they accept Fadnavis as Deputy Chief Minister. The BJP's legislature party is set to meet on Wednesday to make a decision, with Fadnavis widely anticipated to lead, despite Shinde's recent hospitalization for what was described as a routine check-up. sources

Waqf Amendment Bill Withdrawal Resolution Passed

A resolution calling for the withdrawal of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 was passed by voice vote in the West Bengal Assembly on Tuesday, despite a walkout by BJP legislators opposing it. Minister Sovandeb Chattopadhyay argued that the bill could undermine Waqf administration and reduce Muslim representation on the Central Waqf Council and State Waqf boards. He emphasized the need for caution, citing concerns that the bill's provisions might threaten the fundamental rights of a specific religious community. Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari criticized the resolution as a waste of time, asserting that a Joint Parliamentary Committee is already reviewing the bill, which he claimed aims to benefit Muslim women and children. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condemned the BJP-led government for targeting Muslims and questioned its ability to pass the bill due to a lack of a two-thirds majority in Parliament. sources
