The announcement, made on Tuesday, highlights the growing activity in China's aviation market, which is the second-largest globally, following similar intentions from carriers like Spring Airlines and Juneyao Airlines to purchase Airbus jets. The new aircraft are scheduled for delivery in batches from 2028 to 2032, as disclosed in a filing to the Shanghai Stock Exchange. COAI claims that major telecom service providers, including Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio, have faced obstacles in obtaining necessary approvals for 4G and 5G connectivity at the airport. NMIAL, however, refuted these allegations, asserting that it has not denied RoW permissions and has already installed In-Building Solutions (IBS) infrastructure in collaboration with some operators. The airport operator emphasized its commitment to providing high-speed connectivity and stated that the charges levied are in line with industry standards. COAI criticized the fees as disproportionately high and called for regulatory action against NMIAL for allegedly creating a monopolistic environment that contravenes telecom regulations.

Published: Dec 30 2025, 10 pmeznews.inChennai airport has achieved the highest on-time performance (OTP) among major Indian airports for three consecutive months, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). With OTP figures of 91.6% in September, 91.4% in October, and 86.4% in November, Chennai has outperformed Bengaluru, which led in July and August. The airport's success is attributed to optimal resource utilization and effective coordination among stakeholders, including the implementation of 2D barcode scanners to streamline passenger access. In contrast, Mumbai airport has consistently ranked lowest in punctuality due to capacity constraints. Chennai's performance is also aided by handling fewer flights—approximately 408 daily in December—resulting in less congestion and fewer weather-related disruptions compared to other metros. Notably, over 60% of flights at Chennai are operated by IndiGo, whose punctuality significantly impacts overall airport performance.
