TAFI Chairman P.P. Augusthy highlighted issues such as sudden flight cancellations and the lack of airline representatives to assist stranded passengers, calling for improved staffing during operational hours. Additionally, he suggested enhancing the airport's duty-free offerings with more international brands and reviewing the pricing of the *0484 Aero Lounge*, which is perceived as excessively high. TAFI also proposed establishing a communication network to better coordinate services for large MICE groups.
Published: Dec 23 2025, 12 pmeznews.inFrost has severely impacted tea estates in Munnar, Kerala, and the Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu, as plummeting temperatures have led to significant crop losses. Reports indicate that around 100 hectares in Munnar have been affected, potentially disrupting production for the next three months. The UPASI Tea Research Foundation recorded temperatures dropping to zero degrees in several areas, including Lockhart Estate, which is situated at 6,000 feet and has experienced sub-zero conditions. Anil George from Harrisons Malayalam Ltd noted that the extreme cold is causing stress to tea bushes and leaf defoliation, with Lockhart Estate alone suffering damage to 14.3% of its area. The unusual cold is attributed to climate change phenomena, including the Siberian high and Katabatic flow. Small growers in the Nilgiris are also feeling the strain, with the full impact of the frost on production expected to be assessed in the coming weeks.

Published: Dec 23 2025, 1 pmeznews.inA faction of Indian exporters is urging the government to halt rice exports to Bangladesh following violent protests targeting Indian officials, including an attack on the Assistant High Commission in Chattogram. The exporters express concern over the safety of shipments amid escalating tensions, particularly after Bangladesh imposed a ban on raw jute exports, impacting Indian jute mills. They argue that India should reconsider its rice exports, suggesting that if a ban is not implemented, exporters should raise their prices to reflect the risks involved. Bangladesh plans to import 900,000 tonnes of rice for 2025-26, with Indian exporters having previously offered the lowest bids in several tenders. However, with Pakistan's government-to-government rice supply priced higher, some Indian exporters question why they should undercut their prices. Amidst these developments, India has suspended visa operations from Chattogram, while Bangladesh reciprocated by halting visa services from New Delhi.
