Effective from May 9 to May 18, 2025, this directive allows CISF personnel to conduct random checks, manage access control, and oversee the In-line Hold Baggage Screening Systems (ILHBSS). The move aims to bolster aviation security by introducing an additional layer of scrutiny over cargo operations and baggage screening. An official communiqué stated that CISF has promptly resumed oversight of these critical operations, ensuring that all airports under its jurisdiction have implemented the strengthened security protocols. This marks a significant shift in CISF's role, as its previous deployment did not explicitly cover direct security and screening of cargo operations.
Published: May 10 2025, 9 pmeznews.inIn a significant development under the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA), Indian skincare and cosmetic companies are poised to gain greater access to the UK market as tariffs on imports are expected to be halved. Currently, Indian exporters face tariffs as high as 20% on products such as soaps and face creams, which have hindered their competitiveness. Tanay Sharma, Co-Founder of CITTA, highlighted that this reduction could open up the UK market significantly, allowing Indian brands to position themselves more effectively. While the premium skincare segment is likely to see increased competition with a broader range of products, the mass market is expected to remain stable, according to Rohit Gothi, MD of ESME Consumers. He emphasized that their established distribution and manufacturing capabilities would maintain their leadership in the mass market, despite the influx of imported brands.

Published: May 10 2025, 3 pmeznews.inIndia is advised to learn from the recent US-UK trade agreement, which highlights the need for caution in its negotiations with the United States, according to the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI). The think tank noted that while the UK has made significant tariff concessions to the US, the latter has reciprocated minimally, suggesting that India could face similar pressures for a "mini-deal" focused on tariff reductions and strategic commitments rather than a comprehensive free trade agreement. GTRI founder Ajay Srivastava warned that India might be compelled to lower tariffs on sensitive agricultural products and automobiles, as seen in its recent agreement with the UK. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that any trade deal with the US is reciprocal and equitable, urging India to maintain a balanced approach in negotiations. A senior Indian delegation is set to visit Washington this month to continue discussions on the proposed bilateral trade agreement.
