Published: Nov 24 2025, 10 ameznews.inA complex weather system is developing around Sri Lanka and south Tamil Nadu, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warns of a potential depression forming over the south-east Bay of Bengal, which could intensify into a tropical cyclone by Wednesday. Concurrently, an upper air cyclonic circulation near Comorin is expected to deepen into a low-pressure area, creating a competitive scenario between the two systems. The IMD predicts that the Comorin low will be absorbed by the advancing cyclone, which will be named Senyar, before it moves towards Myanmar, potentially triggering fresh weather activity in the south-east Arabian Sea. Heavy rainfall is forecasted across several regions, including the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu, with thunderstorms and gusty winds expected in various coastal areas. Rainfall has already been recorded in multiple locations, with Minicoy in Lakshadweep receiving the highest at 11 cm.
Published: Nov 24 2025, 11 ameznews.inThe International Monetary Fund (IMF) has raised India's growth forecast for the fiscal year 2025-26 to 6.6%, an increase of 20 basis points, while S&P Global has maintained its projection at 6.5%. The global rating agency anticipates a growth of 6.7% for fiscal 2026-27, contingent on India securing a trade deal with the US, which could alleviate uncertainties affecting export-oriented manufacturing. However, S&P Global has lowered its FY 2026-27 forecast to 6.2% due to the impact of increased US tariffs. The World Bank also adjusted its FY 2026 forecast to 6.5% but cut its FY 2027 estimate to 6.3%. Despite a nearly 4.3% depreciation of the Indian rupee this year, strong domestic consumption is expected to drive growth, supported by lower GST rates and tax cuts. Inflation forecasts have been adjusted, with a current projection of 2.5% but an expected rise to 5% next fiscal year.

Published: Nov 24 2025, 9 ameznews.inIndia's coal production and dispatch experienced a decline for the second consecutive month in October 2025, primarily due to reduced demand from the power sector, which also saw a drop in electricity consumption. The Coal Ministry reported an 8.5% year-on-year decrease in production, totaling 77.43 million tonnes, while dispatch fell nearly 5% to 80.44 million tonnes. Energy consumption hit 132 billion units, down 6% from the previous year, with coal power generation also lower at 93.61 billion units. The Indian Energy Exchange noted a significant drop in market prices, with the Day Ahead Market price falling 32% to ₹2.67 per unit. This decline in coal demand has led to reduced railway rake requirements, impacting logistics. Despite these challenges, domestic coal production is projected to grow by 6-7% annually, aiming for 1.5 billion tonnes by FY30, as the country seeks to bolster indigenous supply and reduce imports.
Published: Nov 24 2025, 9 ameznews.inThe recently signed India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) has sparked heightened business interest, with UK Minister for the Indo-Pacific, Seema Malhotra, reporting a surge in inquiries from companies exploring new opportunities. In an exclusive interview, Malhotra noted that the FTA, which aims to reduce trade barriers by 99% for the UK and 90% for India, signifies a long-term partnership between the two nations. The UK government, under Prime Minister Keir Starmer, views the deal as a pivotal reset of international economic ties. During her recent visit to Bengaluru and Chennai, Malhotra highlighted South India's alignment with UK interests in sectors like advanced manufacturing and renewable energy. The FTA is projected to boost the UK economy by £4.8 billion annually and increase bilateral trade by £25.5 billion, benefiting iconic UK products such as cosmetics and whiskies.
Published: Nov 24 2025, 6 ameznews.inAt the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala amid rising concerns from the US and Canada regarding India's recent agricultural policies. The US has questioned how India's aim to double rice exports—where it already holds a 40% share of the global market—will not disrupt international trade. Canada echoed these concerns, urging India to clarify the justification for its minimum price support (MSP) and public stockholding (PSH) measures, which they argue could distort global markets. These issues will be discussed at the WTO Committee on Agriculture meeting in Geneva later this month. India defends its MSP as a means to support small farmers and ensure food security for vulnerable nations, asserting that its stockpiles are not intended for commercial export. The US highlighted record rice production and procurement figures, raising questions about the alignment of India's policies with WTO guidelines.
Published: Nov 23 2025, 7 pmeznews.inIndia's trade deficit reached a record $41.68 billion in October, driven significantly by soaring fertiliser imports alongside gold. Recent trade data reveals that fertiliser imports surged by 82% year-on-year, with a staggering 143.67% increase in just four months from July to October, amounting to $8.09 billion. Urea imports alone skyrocketed by 228.43% during this period, prompting the government to import 60 lakh tonnes in response to rising domestic demand amid a good monsoon. This rush to secure fertilisers has contributed to a spike in global prices, with imported urea costing $400-410 per tonne, up from $362 a year ago. The Fertiliser Ministry has ceased monthly updates on imports and production since July, exacerbating the shortage. While the opening stock of some nutrients has improved, it remains lower than last year, prompting the government to maintain a cap on subsidised fertiliser purchases to manage distribution effectively.

Rolls-Royce plans to produce the MB838 engine for the Arjun tank and the Series 199 family of engines, which will offer various configurations for diverse military needs. The initiative includes a full technology transfer to enable local manufacturing, although concerns remain about the domestic ecosystem's capacity for specialised components. With a long-standing presence in India's defence sector, Rolls-Royce also operates a joint venture for civilian engine production, further solidifying its commitment to the Indian market.

This initiative, outlined in the Lok Sabha Bulletin, seeks to enhance the ease of doing business and address recommendations from the Company Law Committee's 2022 report, which proposed 26 changes to the Companies Act and one to the LLP Act. A key proposal includes the legal recognition of fractional shares, allowing investors to hold portions of shares, thereby making high-priced stocks more accessible to retail investors. Additionally, the Bill suggests enabling distressed companies to issue shares at a discount to the government or designated investors. The amendments also introduce Producer Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs), aimed at supporting small agricultural operations with simpler compliance and management structures.
