The World Economic Forum (WEF) has identified seven emerging deep technologies, including generative AI, robotics, and satellite-enabled remote sensing, as transformative forces in agriculture, according to a report released on Friday. This report, titled 'Shaping the Deep-Tech Revolution in Agriculture,' highlights the potential of these technologies to enhance productivity and resilience in the face of global agricultural challenges, such as climate change and resource degradation. Case studies from India illustrate successful applications, such as climate-resilient rice developed using CRISPR technology and remote sensing for efficient crop insurance assessments. The WEF emphasizes the need for governments to adopt flexible policies to support these innovations, which could significantly improve agricultural systems and livelihoods. Since 2021, the WEF's Artificial Intelligence for Agriculture Initiative has reached nearly 900,000 farmers in India, promoting partnerships to harness technology's impact on agriculture.

Published: Nov 07 2025, 4 pmeznews.inV. Anantha Nageswaran, the Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India, expressed optimism on Friday regarding the country's economic growth, projecting it to exceed 6.8% in the current financial year, bolstered by a consumption boost from recent GST rate cuts and income tax relief. The Economic Survey had earlier estimated growth between 6.3% and 6.8% for FY26. Nageswaran noted that India's GDP grew by 7.8% in the first quarter, driven by strong performance in agriculture and services, making it the fastest-growing major economy, outpacing China's 5.2% growth. He indicated that a potential bilateral trade agreement with the US could further enhance growth forecasts, although he refrained from providing a specific timeline for its completion. Currently, the US has imposed a 50% tariff on Indian goods, complicating trade relations.
Published: Nov 07 2025, 3 pmeznews.inPrices for both CTC and orthodox tea varieties remained stable at the Kochi auctions, with a notable sales percentage for dust grades. The CTC dust offered amounted to 635,430 kg, achieving a 93% sales rate, with blenders purchasing 64% of the total sold. Good liquoring teas showed steady to firm prices, with some irregular increases, according to auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis. In contrast, the orthodox dust market saw primary grades remain steady while secondaries experienced a decline, with 14,000 kg offered and limited absorption from exporters and upcountry buyers. Anil George, chairman of the Tea Trade Association of Cochin, noted that exporters were selective, particularly regarding plainer teas, while bazaar buyers targeted finer lines. Strong export participation drove the orthodox leaf market, with active interest from CIS and Middle Eastern buyers. The Kochi auctions continue to enhance price discovery through the Bharat Auction platform, ensuring transparent access to premium South Indian teas.
Published: Nov 07 2025, 3 pmeznews.inThe Supreme Court of India has reassured the 91-year-old father of Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, who died in the Air India Boeing 787 crash in Ahmedabad, that his son is not to blame for the tragedy. Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi emphasized that the crash, which occurred shortly after takeoff on June 12 and resulted in 260 fatalities, was an accident, as indicated in a preliminary report by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Board (AAIB). The court issued notices to the Centre and the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) regarding a plea from Pushkaraj Sabharwal, who is seeking a thorough investigation into the incident. He argues that an incomplete inquiry could jeopardize future aviation safety. The court has scheduled further hearings for November 10, alongside other related petitions. The crash also claimed the lives of 12 crew members and 19 individuals on the ground.
Published: Nov 07 2025, 1 pmeznews.inThe demand for low-complexity roles in the IT sector, such as manual testers and data-entry operators, is declining as AI tools and low-code platforms increasingly automate these tasks. Staffing firms are adapting to this shift by focusing on flexible, project-based hiring models that cater to niche skill sets, particularly in non-tech sectors like BFSI, healthcare, and retail. Major IT companies, including TCS and Infosys, have laid off thousands while simultaneously expanding their workforce in AI-focused areas, reflecting a broader trend of rationalisation rather than contraction. Fresh graduate recruitment has plummeted by over 50% since 2019, with companies prioritising upskilling and specialist hires. Despite a slowdown in traditional IT hiring, the overall job market in India is projected to grow by 9% by 2025, driven by demand for roles requiring human judgment in areas like data validation and ethical AI oversight.
Published: Nov 07 2025, 1 pmeznews.inU.S. President Donald Trump stated on Thursday that trade discussions with India were progressing positively, expressing intentions to visit the country. He claimed that India had largely ceased purchasing Russian oil, a point he emphasized to pressure New Delhi into compliance with U.S. demands. U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick defended the imposition of tariffs on Indian goods, including a 25% penalty for Russian oil purchases, asserting that these measures were aimed at promoting justice and ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict. However, India remains resistant to cutting its energy ties with Russia, despite a 28.93% decline in imports due to U.S. sanctions. Indian officials criticized the tariffs as unacceptable, arguing that they penalize a sovereign decision. As India seeks to negotiate a rollback of these tariffs, its exports to the U.S. have already seen a significant decline, particularly in labor-intensive sectors.
