BENGALURU: Actor Ranya Rao has alleged custodial torture and wrongful implication in a gold smuggling case, claiming she was arrested directly from an aircraft rather than the airport terminal, as stated by authorities. In a letter to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), she detailed physical assault, denial of food and sleep, and coercion into signing blank documents. Her accusations follow a Bengaluru court's denial of her bail request, with the case prompting a political investigation into her stepfather, Karnataka's Director General of Police K Ramachandra Rao. Rao was apprehended on March 3 for allegedly smuggling over 14 kg of gold from Dubai, with the DRI estimating customs duty evasion at Rs 4.83 crore.
