May 16 2025, 7 ameznews.inIndia is projected to remain the fastest-growing large economy, with a growth rate of 6.3% for the fiscal year, according to a United Nations report. This marks a slight reduction from the earlier forecast of 6.6%. The UN's mid-year update on the World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP) indicates that India's growth will accelerate to 6.4% next year, despite a global economic outlook that has weakened due to heightened trade tensions and policy uncertainty. In contrast, the global economy is expected to grow at just 2.4%, with major economies like the US and Germany facing significantly lower rates. India's growth is bolstered by strong private consumption, public investment, and robust services exports, while inflation is expected to decrease to 4.3% in 2025. Highlighting a significant issue where extensive notified forest land remains under revenue department control, the court directed that such lands be transferred to the forest department. This ruling stems from a case involving 11.89 hectares of reserved forest land in Pune, which was deemed illegally allotted for agricultural use in 1998 to the "Chavan family." The court criticized the collusion between politicians, bureaucrats, and private developers, emphasizing the need for prior approval from the Central government for any non-forest activities on forest land. The bench ordered the retrieval of these lands within three months and stipulated that any future use must focus solely on afforestation.
