MUMBAI: The Mumbai Police Crime Branch has arrested seven individuals involved in a sophisticated scam that exploited fake Aadhaar and PAN cards to acquire and resell luxury vehicles, defrauding numerous victims and banks across several states. The group, which includes four members with prior criminal records, purchased cars valued at Rs 7.30 crore, with authorities seizing 16 vehicles, including a BMW convertible and eight Fortuners, and anticipating that this number may rise to 35. Officials revealed that the accused obtained PAN card details of traders using their GST numbers to create counterfeit identification, targeting those with strong CIBIL scores to secure bank loans. They then altered engine and chassis numbers before selling the vehicles through agents in Delhi, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh. A comprehensive investigation is currently ongoing, according to police sources.
