Delhi Cabinet Approves Health Scheme and Audit Reports

In a significant move following her first Cabinet meeting, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme in the capital, fulfilling a key electoral promise. Gupta criticized the previous AAP government for delaying the scheme, stating it would now include a state-funded top-up of Rs 5 lakh. Additionally, she confirmed that 14 pending Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports, including one linked to the controversial scrapped liquor policy, would be presented in the Assembly. The Ayushman Bharat scheme has been a contentious issue between the AAP and BJP, with the latter arguing that the capital's residents deserve access to the national benefits. Former AAP chief Atishi challenged the BJP to deliver on its promise of financial support for women, to which Gupta responded by emphasizing the new government's agenda. The BJP reclaimed power in Delhi after a 26-year hiatus, winning 48 seats against AAP's 22. sources

Video: Family Uses Dozen Bulldozers for Bride's Bidaai

In a unique twist to traditional Indian weddings, a family in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, made headlines by incorporating nearly a dozen bulldozers into the bride's _'bidaai'_, or ceremonial send-off. Karishma, the bride of Rahul Yadav, was initially met with shock from onlookers who feared the heavy machinery signified government action against illegal structures, a common occurrence under the Yogi Adityanath administration. However, as the procession unfolded, it became clear that the bulldozers were part of the wedding festivities, leading to the event being dubbed the "Bulldozer Wedding." The groom's uncle, Ramkumar, explained that they wanted to create a memorable experience that differed from typical send-offs involving cars or helicopters, as they owned several JCBs. 2022 Government Change: E Shinde on Maharashtra Alliance Issues

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde issued a stern warning, "do not take me lightly," amid reported tensions between his faction of the Shiv Sena and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His comments followed police receiving bomb threats against his vehicle, which he dismissed, asserting he was not afraid. Shinde, who played a pivotal role in the BJP's return to power in 2022, emphasized his connection to the late Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray. Tensions have escalated due to reduced security for Sena MLAs and discontent over political appointments, including guardian ministers for key districts. Despite these issues, both Shinde and BJP officials have publicly denied any rift. The coalition, known as Mahayuti, secured a significant electoral victory recently, but the dynamics of leadership and power-sharing remain fraught with underlying friction. sources

Delhi BJP Chief: No Public Funds for Government Glorification

Delhi BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva emphasized on Friday that the new BJP government would not waste public funds on self-promotion, contrasting its approach with that of the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration. At a press conference, he outlined the BJP's commitment to a transparent advertisement policy, stating that all advertisements would serve the public interest. The BJP regained power in Delhi after more than 26 years, ending AAP's decade-long rule. Sachdeva highlighted the stark difference in spending, noting that while former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's government reportedly spent Rs 4.5 crore daily on advertisements during its last oath-taking ceremony in 2020, the BJP spent nothing from public funds for its recent ceremony. He accused AAP of misusing public money and asserted that the BJP's advertising strategy would prioritize transparency and accountability. sources

Education Minister Responds to MK Stalin's Anti-Delhi Claims

In a response to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin's criticisms regarding the three-language formula in the National Education Policy (NEP), Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan accused Stalin of fabricating a "false narrative" of Hindi imposition for political gain. Pradhan emphasized that Tamil Nadu had previously agreed to the NEP but reversed its position for political reasons, claiming this undermines students' academic progress. He defended the three-language policy as essential for restoring Indian languages in education, arguing that it does not mandate Hindi but encourages linguistic diversity. Pradhan refuted Stalin's allegations of fund withholding for the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, asserting that Tamil Nadu's rigid stance is depriving students of vital educational resources. He reiterated that the central government promotes all Indian languages and that Tamil Nadu's opposition to the NEP is politically motivated, ultimately harming the state's educational landscape. sources
