Ramayana Copy and Visitor for Meerut Murder Accused

Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla, accused of the brutal murder of Saurabh Rajput in Meerut, are currently held in Chaudhary Charan Singh District Jail. The couple allegedly killed Saurabh, dismembered his body into 15 pieces, and concealed it in a drum filled with wet cement. On Sunday, they received an unexpected visit from actor-turned-politician Arun Govil, who distributed 1,500 copies of the Ramayana as part of his 'Ghar Ghar Ramayan' initiative. Govil, a BJP leader and Meerut MP, aims to distribute 11 lakh copies nationwide, having already shared over 11,000 in the region since the campaign's launch 45 days ago. While the inmates expressed emotional responses to Govil's visit, they are reportedly struggling with severe drug withdrawal symptoms. The murder, uncovered on March 18, stemmed from Muskan's extramarital affair with Sahil, leading to the gruesome crime that shocked the community. sources

Tripura Ex-Royal: 'Break Up Bangladesh' Comment on China

Comments by Bangladeshi leader Mohd Yunus, describing the seven northeastern Indian states as "an extension of the Chinese economy" and suggesting that Beijing could take control, have sparked outrage among Indian politicians. Pradyot Manikya, founder of the Tipra Motha party in Tripura, responded by proposing that India should consider annexing parts of Bangladesh, particularly the Chittagong Hill Tracts, which he claims have historically desired to join India. He argued that this move would provide northeastern states with direct access to the sea and improve conditions for the indigenous tribes living in Bangladesh. The controversy follows Yunus's remarks inviting China to leverage Bangladesh's strategic ports, which Indian officials, including Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, have condemned as offensive. The evolving geopolitical landscape raises concerns for India's Chicken's Neck Corridor, crucial for access to the northeast, amid fears of increased Chinese influence in the region. sources

Karnataka Increases Diesel Sales Tax

The Karnataka government has increased the sales tax on diesel to 21.17%, effective from April 1, 2025, resulting in a price hike of Rs 2 per litre, bringing the total to Rs 91.02. This change follows a previous tax rate of 18.44% set on June 15, 2024, and a higher rate of 24% prior to November 4, 2021. Despite the increase, diesel prices in Karnataka remain lower than in neighbouring states, with Bengaluru's price at Rs 89.02 compared to Rs 94.42 in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, and Rs 95.66 in Kasaragod, Kerala. Opposition leader R. Ashoka condemned the tax hike, claiming it burdens the poor and middle class, and warned that rising diesel prices could lead to increased costs for essential goods and services, including public transport. sources

On October 28, 2022, he and five accomplices executed a meticulously planned operation, using silent hydraulic cutters and gas-cutting tools to access bank lockers while employing strategies to evade detection, including spreading chilli powder to confuse potential witnesses. Following an extensive investigation across several states, police arrested the six suspects and recovered 17 kg of gold worth Rs 13 crore, some of which was hidden in a deep irrigation well in Tamil Nadu. Court Denies Stay on Mohanlal Film; Plea for Publicity?

The Kerala High Court has refused to suspend the screening of the Malayalam film 'L2: Empuraan,' featuring Mohanlal, amid concerns raised by Thrissur-native V V Vijeesh that it could incite communal violence. Justice C S Dias has issued notices to the Centre and the Censor Board for their responses and questioned the petition's motives, suggesting it may have been filed for publicity rather than genuine concern, as no formal complaints against the film have been lodged. The state government confirmed that no cases have been registered against the movie. In response to criticism from the Sangh Parivar regarding certain scenes, producer Antony Perumbavoor announced that the film has undergone cuts of over two minutes, a decision made collectively by the production team. 'L2: Empuraan,' the sequel to 'Lucifer,' has sparked debate for its critique of right-wing politics and references to the Gujarat riots. sources

'BJP Blames Arvind Kejriwal for 1 Lakh Polluting Vehicles'

Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Sirsa has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leader Arvind Kejriwal of failing to control air pollution and mismanaging public funds. Sirsa claims that over 108,000 vehicles are operating in the city, emitting harmful pollutants beyond legal limits, and alleges that more than Rs 87 lakh was wasted on tenders for CNG buses and 'anti-smog towers', with Rs 22 crore spent on a 'missing' tower. A recent Comptroller & Auditor-General (CAG) report corroborated these claims, highlighting significant lapses in vehicular emission control, including inadequate data on vehicle types and emissions, irregularities in issuing pollution control certificates, and a reduction in the bus fleet despite a stated need for 11,000 additional buses. The report stressed the urgent need for comprehensive measures to improve air quality monitoring and emissions control. The BJP, which regained power in February, is now auditing the previous AAP administration. sources
