His arrival follows a truce in Geneva that paused the ongoing trade war between the U.S. and China, which has raised global recession concerns. Perdue, who has shifted from a pro-trade stance to a China hawk, will focus on negotiating a trade deal and addressing the flow of fentanyl precursors from China, which is linked to U.S. tariffs. Analysts expect Perdue to adopt a more pragmatic approach compared to his predecessor, potentially facilitating better economic relations. His extensive business background and previous congressional experience in China may aid in addressing ongoing issues like market access and intellectual property theft.
