At a recent industry event, Westermeier highlighted the importance of integrating Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) into India's corporate social responsibility (CSR) framework, emphasizing that airlines' voluntary SAF initiatives represent a significant investment in climate change mitigation. SAF, derived from renewable or waste sources, is crucial for the aviation sector to fulfill its environmental obligations under the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), which India will begin adhering to in 2027. Westermeier urged businesses to support SAF demand by committing to its purchase for corporate travel, which could stimulate job creation and utilize surplus agricultural resources. Despite SAF's current price being two to four times higher than traditional jet fuel, India’s technological capabilities and biomass resources position it well to lead in SAF production. The government aims for a gradual increase in SAF blending targets, starting at one percent in 2027 and reaching five percent by 2030, necessitating collaboration across sectors.
Published: Nov 06 2025, 2 pmeznews.inRecovering and reusing materials from discarded solar panels could represent a ₹3,700 crore market opportunity by 2047, according to new studies from the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW). The research indicates that recycling valuable materials like silicon, copper, aluminium, and silver could supply 38% of the solar sector's manufacturing inputs and prevent 37 million tonnes of carbon emissions. Currently, India's solar recycling market is in its infancy, with only a few commercial recyclers. The studies outline a blueprint for a domestic solar recycling ecosystem, predicting that India will generate over 11 million tonnes of solar waste by 2047, necessitating nearly 300 recycling plants and an investment of ₹4,200 crore. To make recycling viable, the studies recommend policy measures, including Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) targets and incentives, to foster innovation and create a sustainable circular economy in the solar sector.
Published: Nov 06 2025, 4 pmeznews.inIndia's sugar industry anticipates a significant increase in exports, projecting a rise to approximately 2 million tonnes in the upcoming season, driven by a reduced diversion of sugar for ethanol production, which has resulted in a larger domestic surplus. Industry officials noted that this increase could impact global sugar prices, particularly in New York and London, where futures are currently at five-year lows. Following a drought that led to a government ban on sugar exports in 2023/24, India, the world's second-largest sugar exporter, is now poised to boost shipments after averaging 6.8 million tonnes annually in previous years. The Indian Sugar & Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association estimates net sugar output for the 2025/26 season at 30.95 million tonnes, an 18.5% increase from last year. The industry is urging the government to permit early exports to capitalize on a brief window before Brazilian supplies enter the market.
Published: Nov 06 2025, 4 pmeznews.inIndia's services sector experienced a slowdown in growth during October, with the HSBC India Services Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) dropping to 58.9 from 60.9 in September, marking the slowest expansion since May. Despite this decline, the index remains significantly above the neutral threshold of 50, indicating ongoing growth, bolstered by resilient demand and Goods and Services Tax (GST) relief. Competitive pressures and heavy rainfall were cited as factors contributing to the slowdown. Notably, international demand for Indian services continued to rise, although at the weakest rate since March. Input costs and output charges increased at their slowest rates in 14 and seven months, respectively, as firms reported improved operating conditions. Companies expressed optimism about future business activity, leading to increased hiring. Meanwhile, the composite PMI, which includes both manufacturing and services, also fell to 60.4, reflecting a broader deceleration in economic momentum.

Published: Nov 06 2025, 3 pmeznews.inThe Maharashtra government has approved a ₹7,485 crore grant to boost Rabi sowing following significant crop losses from unseasonal rains during the Kharif season. The Marathwada region will receive the largest allocation of ₹4,486 crore, with Vidarbha, Pune, and Konkan divisions receiving ₹2,544 crore, ₹785 crore, and ₹29.68 crore, respectively. Currently, only 0.59% of the target area has been sown, but authorities expect this to improve as water levels and soil moisture have increased. Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharne noted that the Rabi sowing area could expand from the usual 56 lakh hectares to 65 lakh hectares this year. The government aims to credit the funds directly to farmers' accounts to facilitate immediate relief and support for fresh sowing, fostering optimism for a productive agricultural cycle and revitalizing rural economies in the state.

Published: Nov 06 2025, 3 pmeznews.inUnion Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu announced that the Indian government will soon unveil a draft policy on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for industry consultations. SAF, derived from renewable or waste sources, is crucial for India's ambition to become a major exporter, leveraging its geographical advantages and abundant biomass resources, estimated at over 750 million metric tonnes. Naidu emphasized the importance of involving both public and private sector refiners in the SAF ecosystem. Despite the potential, SAF currently faces challenges, with prices two to four times higher than traditional jet fuel. The government plans to implement the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) starting in 2027, with targets for SAF blending in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) set at 1% in 2027, 2% in 2028, and 5% by 2030. Indian Oil Corporation has recently received certification to produce SAF at its Panipat refinery, marking a significant milestone in India's SAF production capabilities.

Published: Nov 06 2025, 1 pmeznews.inIndia's crude oil imports from the United States have surged, with September 2025 figures reaching a record 568,000 barrels per day (b/d), marking the highest level since March 2021. This increase has allowed the US to surpass the UAE as India's fourth-largest crude supplier, a position the UAE held for six months prior. Analysts from Kpler anticipate that imports will stabilize at 450,000 to 500,000 b/d in November, driven by favorable market conditions rather than recent US sanctions on Russian oil companies. The US Energy Information Administration reported that cumulative crude exports to India from January to August 2025 hit 2.20 million b/d, a record high. The rise in US crude imports reflects India's strategy to diversify its energy sources and enhance supply security, while also aiming to reduce its trade deficit with the US and strengthen bilateral energy cooperation.
