The deadline for individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) to file ITRs for the financial year 2024-25 is September 15, with no indication from the department of an extension. The department urged taxpayers to file their returns, emphasizing that the portal is functioning properly and advising users to clear their browser cache if they encounter issues. Last year, 7.28 crore ITRs were filed by the July 31 deadline. The department has dismissed claims of a deadline extension as "fake" and reiterated that the due date remains September 15, 2025. The increase in ITR filings reflects a growing trend in tax compliance and an expanding tax base in India.
