The Income Tax Department announced on Monday that over 7 crore income tax returns (ITRs) have been filed as the deadline approaches, despite widespread complaints from users about glitches on the e-filing portal. The deadline for individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) to file ITRs for the financial year 2024-25 is September 15, with no indication from the department of an extension. Hatsun may reach ₹10,000 crore revenue this fiscal, says Chairman

Hatsun Agro Product (HAP), India's largest private dairy company, is poised to reach a revenue of ₹10,000 crore by the end of the current fiscal year, up from nearly ₹8,700 crore last year, according to Chairman RG Chandramogan. He noted that while the company is optimistic, unpredictable weather poses challenges to achieving this target. HAP's revenue is primarily driven by milk sales, which account for 56% of total earnings, alongside ice cream (14-15%) and cultured products like paneer (18-19%). The company procures around 40 lakh litres of milk daily and operates three major brands—Arun, Arogya, and Hatsun—each generating ₹1,000 crore in turnover. Chandramogan anticipates that recent government reforms, including changes to Income Tax and GST, will boost consumer spending, although he acknowledged external factors, such as geopolitical tensions and weather variability, could impact the industry. sources

Short-term La Niña expected Oct-Dec, say global agencies

In August, ENSO-neutral conditions persisted, with near-to-below average sea surface temperatures recorded in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific, according to the US Climate Prediction Center (CPC) and the APEC Climate Centre (APCC). Both organizations forecast a short-lived La Niña event likely to develop between October and December 2025, with a 71% probability of its occurrence. The CPC predicts above-normal precipitation for the Arctic and parts of northern continents, while below-normal precipitation is expected in central Asia and the equatorial central Pacific during the same period. Additionally, the APCC anticipates global temperature increases, excluding the central and eastern tropical Pacific. Wind anomalies indicate a continuation of ENSO-neutral conditions, but models suggest La Niña may emerge and persist through the winter, with a 54% chance of continuation into early 2026. sources

Shreeji Shipping Global Q1 Net Rises 52%

Shreeji Shipping Global, a logistics firm specializing in dry-bulk cargo, has reported a significant 52% increase in net profit for the June quarter, reaching ₹38 crore compared to ₹25 crore in the same period last year, driven by service diversification. Revenue rose by 24% to ₹161 crore, while EBITDA surged 58% to ₹60 crore. Chairman Ashokkumar Haridas Lal attributed this growth to the company's diverse service offerings, long-term contracts, and extensive geographic reach, which helped mitigate seasonal disruptions from monsoon-related port closures. The company recently received a Letter of Intent to establish Floating Crane Facilities at Diamond Harbour, enhancing its port services and expected to boost revenue this financial year. With over 80 vessels and 370 earthmoving equipment, Shreeji Shipping focuses on non-major ports along India's West Coast and aims to expand into sectors like Oil & Gas and Energy, supported by fresh capital from its IPO. sources

Edible oil imports rise 5.55% in August with CPO boost

India's edible oil imports rose by 5.55% in August 2025, primarily due to a significant increase in crude palm oil (CPO) shipments, according to the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA). The country imported 16.21 lakh tonnes of edible oil in August 2025, up from 15.36 lakh tonnes the previous year, with CPO imports surging by 39.79% to 9.79 lakh tonnes. However, total edible oil imports for the first ten months of the 2024-25 oil year fell by 8.11% to 123.78 lakh tonnes. A notable decline in refined palmolein imports was attributed to a rise in import duties, which made refined oils less economical. This shift has revitalized the domestic refining sector, aligning with the government's 'Make in India' initiative. Major exporters included Indonesia and Malaysia for CPO, while soybean and sunflower oil imports varied from countries like Argentina and Russia. sources
