A local court in T. Narasipura has summoned Kannada actor Darshan and his wife, Vijayalaxmi, to appear on July 4 regarding the illegal possession of four bar-headed geese at their farmhouse near Mysuru. The bar-headed goose, a rare migratory bird native to the Middle East, was discovered during a raid prompted by a viral video of Darshan interacting with the birds. The Forest Department has filed charges under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and the Wildlife (Protection) Amendment Act, 2022, which could result in up to three years of imprisonment if found guilty. Authorities also found various imported foreign birds at the farmhouse, leading to requests for ownership documentation. The seized geese were later released into the wild. Darshan, who is currently out on conditional bail related to the murder of a fan, has faced criticism despite his public affection for animals.
