NDTV Explains: Reasons Behind ISRO's EOS-9 Launch Failure

NEW DELHI: The Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) 63rd PSLV launch, intended to deploy the EOS-9 surveillance satellite, ended in failure due to a drop in chamber pressure during the third stage. The launch took place at 5.59 am from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, following successful initial stages. ISRO chairman V Narayanan, who previously identified issues in the Chandrayaan-2 mission, confirmed the anomaly occurred in the solid fuel stage. The EOS-9 satellite, designed to enhance India's remote sensing capabilities and provide critical data across various sectors, was meant to orbit 500 kilometres above the Earth. In light of the failure, both ISRO's internal committee and an external government panel will investigate the incident, with findings expected in a few weeks. Despite the setback, four radar satellites and eight cartosats remain operational, though EOS-9's unique all-weather capabilities will take years to replace. sources

Asaduddin Owaisi Responds to Pak Trolls: 'No One So Handsome'

NEW DELHI: AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has dismissed trolling from Pakistani social media users, humorously declaring himself Pakistan's "dulhe bhai" or brother-in-law. Speaking at a press conference in Hyderabad following his selection for a government delegation aimed at exposing Pakistan's ties to terrorism, Owaisi addressed the backlash he faced after condemning the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. He criticized Pakistani leaders for their nuclear threats and insisted that their actions equate to terrorism, asserting that Pakistan is lagging behind India. Initially excluded from an all-party meeting due to his party's lack of MPs, Owaisi was later invited after objecting to the criteria. He emphasized his commitment to national security while maintaining his critical stance on domestic issues, stating that his role in the delegation transcends party lines and is a significant responsibility. sources

Priest's Viral Video Serving Temple Food Causes Controversy

A viral video showing a family dining at a table while eating Mahaprasad, the sacred food offered at Puri's Jagannath temple, has sparked controversy in Odisha. Traditionally, Mahaprasad is consumed while sitting on the ground, a practice upheld for centuries. The video depicts at least ten family members, including children, at a beach resort where a priest served them the holy food. When confronted by a bystander, a family member claimed they had inquired about the arrangement. The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) responded by condemning the act, emphasizing that consuming Mahaprasad at a table contradicts established customs. They urged devotees to respect the tradition of eating while seated on the ground and requested hotels in Puri to inform guests against such practices, highlighting the significance of maintaining the temple's age-old rituals. sources

Shashi Tharoor Responds to Congress Insult Question

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor defended his decision to accept the Indian government's invitation to lead a multi-party delegation abroad aimed at presenting India's stance against Pakistan on terrorism, asserting, "I see no politics in it." Tharoor, invited by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju due to his foreign affairs experience, emphasized the importance of national unity during crises. While he acknowledged the delegation's formation, he distanced himself from any internal party discussions regarding suggested names, stating that inquiries about Congress's stance should be directed to the party itself. Tharoor expressed confidence in his role, asserting that national service is a duty for all citizens, and stressed the need for a united front against terrorism. In response, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh highlighted the necessity for MPs to seek party approval when participating in official delegations, noting that the party had nominated other members for this initiative. sources
